Adult Supported Living

Adult Supported Living

Supported Living serves the primary right to independent living of each person, while aiming to develop and maintain to the maximum extent the skills and abilities of the residents, so that they can live as independently and actively as possible in the social environment.

The Association, responding to the ever-changing needs of its service users, has made the establishment and operation of Supported Living Houses (SLH) an immediate priority of its goals.

Taking into account on the one hand the necessity of supporting people with intellectual disabilities throughout their adult life and on the other hand the acceptance of their right to an independent and dignified living, the Association adopted the supported living model that meets both of these conditions.

The basic principle that governs the operation of the Supported Living House is the respect of the personality of each person and their primary right to independent and dignified living with active inclusion in the social environment as well as the avoidance of any "marginalization" or "institutionalization" of them.

The focus is on the person with a disability, also through the monitoring of strengthening social inclusion actions.

The Association, with the assistance of important sponsors and NSRF programs, has proceeded with the construction and operation of five Supported Living Houses, in which 42 people live. Each SLH includes individual dormitories, equipped and functionally configured in such a way as to serve the needs of the residents, with individual w.c., large reception area, playroom, exercise equipment, kitchen and other common areas inside and outside the house.

Here it is worth noting that the President of our association personally participated in the first Project Management Team (PMT) which edited the institutional framework of the Ministerial Decision for the operation of the SLH.

In the supported living houses, people live with the oversight of special caregivers and a supportive team consisting of a doctor, social worker, psychologist, occupational therapist.

The purpose of all of them is to create real and safe home for the residents. The Supported Living House, with methodical and targeted interventions for the Residents, aims to improve their functionality, their psycho-motor maturation and their social inclusion.
